Persecuted? Let's not forget we are the LORD's vessels!

Psalm 109
A Cry for Vengeance

1 Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise; 2 for the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue. 3 They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause. 4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer. 5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. 6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand. 7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin. 8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office. 9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. 10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places. 11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labor. 12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children. 13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out. 14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. 15 Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth. 16 Because that he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart. 17 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him. 18 As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones. 19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually. 20 Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul. 21 But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name's sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me. 22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. 23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust. 24 My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness. 25 I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shook their heads. 26 Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy: 27 that they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it. 28 Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice. 29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame; and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle. 30 I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude. 31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

Straight from Brother Jim!

Howdy all,

Or should I say, ¡Dios le Bendiga!

Our trip to Mexico got off to a rocky start. Due to some family illness issues with the Aguilera family, we not only left 2 hours late but made an unscheduled stop in Wharton to visit their daughter in the Hospital. The trip to the border should take 6 hours and we were scheduled to leave at 4 AM. By the time we actually arrived at the border it was after 2PM. By the time we stopped in 4 different exchange houses to convert our dollars to pesos and purchased our vehicle insurance it was after 4 PM. Thankfully we all agreed that pushing on at that point was problematic so we spent the night in San Benito and attempted an early start on Saturday. We were at the 24 hour free trade bridge by 7:30 only to discover that while the bridge is open 24 hours a day, the immigration office did not open until 9 AM. Drive down to Brownsville, find another bridge, encounter the typical paper work delays, we finally crossed into Mexico around 10AM on Saturday instead of 2 PM on Friday.

Our plans to finalize the purchase of the property on Saturday were unrealized. We made an appointment with a lawyer in Ciudad Mante for Monday. By now I can report that the seller did not have all the paper work together at that meeting so we try again tomorrow morning. No major problems, just the typical paper work hassles that accompany such transactions in Mexico.

On the positive side, we had very good attendance at the Sunday morning services at El Limonal with roughly 30 adults and 20 kids meeting in the front yard of Brother Andres. This morning we had 40 children and 12 adults participating in VBS in addition to the 19 workers and teachers making it happen. We were allowed to use the new property this morning even though the deal is not yet completed. If this year is anything like previous years, attendance will grow by leaps and bounds each day. We picked up more supplies today to be ready for tomorrow morning.

We were blessed this morning with excellent weather. It probably never topped 90 degrees and we were in a shady yard with a pleasant breeze. It really did feel great. Excitement is building and I personally will be very glad to finish the purchase of the property.

We will have more stories and more information as the week progresses. Today was our first opportunity to locate a cyber-cafe and get work back out to our friends and family back home.

Please keep us in your prayers this week.

In Him,

Jim {Santiago} Lamar

The Lord is good!

The Mexico mission is in good hands with Bro. Benito and Bro. Jim; our prayers and support go with them and their families. Preparations are going very well, more than a dozen suitcases of clothes will travel, as well as a team to minister through preaching, teaching, and fellowship. Let us all be a part - PRAY!

It will only be "just a little while" before our family's visit back down south to Mante & Limonal, as we continue to serve as the Lord desires.

Mexico Mission: 17-25 July 2009

Great News! Dates are scheduled for the next trip. We've already accumulated quite a bit of clothing, packed up in a dozen or so suitcases, for donation this time around, but still in need of donations for expenses.

Please consider giving as the Lord leads you!

March services at El Limonal; as you can see smiles all around!

Give to Those Who Have Ministered to You

Q: How Do You Know Where to Give?
A: Romans 15:27 says Give to Those Who Have Ministered to You.

"Now, however, I am on my way to Jerusalem in the service of the saints there. For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. They were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in the Jews' spiritual blessings, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings."

First, this shows a church, or a group of churches giving money to another work which is far away. Others are needed to help. This is a good pattern for helping others outside our neighborhood.

Second, it shows financial duty to those who minister to us. We have a duty to consider how we might bring financial blessing to those who minister to us. If we have received benefit, we ought to help them. Give materially to those who have been a blessing to you spiritually.

So here is our question: Has the work of the Lord through us been a blessing to you, your family or your church. If the answer is yes, please consider helping us advance the work of His Kingdom.

Here are some ways you can help:

1. Give a generous one time gift to help us with the July Mexico Mission Trip. This will help cover costs we incur for VBS materials, travel, food, and donations to the mission sites in Mexico.
2. Put us in your personal monthly budget or church “Home Missions” budget. Your monthly support allows us to continue ministry and fund future mission trips.

May the Lord bless you as you seek His wisdom and guidance.

Mexico March 2009

Thursday was a prep day for Mexico. We are thankful for Hermano Benito and Hermana Rosa for sharing their casa with us. We left for Mexico Friday morning around 4:00 and arrived at the first border crossing around noon. This crossing took the longest, as they would not permit the trailer we were pulling. We stopped and unloaded most everything that was in the trailer into the already packed van with us. The Fronteria border crossing was not a problem as we basically sailed past.

We got into Ciudad Mante around 9:00 pm and were looking forward to resting in the hotel. There are very few stop lights in Mexico and traffic seems to be semi-controlled with speed bumps, lots of speed bumps. Lots! However, we went to a family's casa for an excellent dinner. Excellente! The children played ball you would never know that there was a language barrier. By the time we got to the hotel, everyone was ready for sleep!

Up Saturday morning bright and early on our way to El Limonal. It was about a 3 hour drive over some of the most scenic mountain ranges and valleys we had seen. Again, the roads were bumpy! We visited a few missions along the way and were blessed by the people and the Spirit of God was evident. Services were held Saturday evening under the trees and afterwards we had a dinner of tamales and pan dulce (sweet breads) at Hermana Ava's. They insisted that we stay with them instead of going to a hotel. These people take hospitality seriously as we found out later that some slept in their car so that we could have their room. Talk about humbling!

Sunday morning was another delicious meal and a few of us took a walk around town. Sunday was service at El Limonal from about 10 am to 3pm then back to Hermana Ava's for lunch of chicken mole. YUM! After visiting for awhile, we headed back to Mante. We went back to Hermano Goyo's, services at Monte Horeb, then back to Hermano Goyo's before going to the hotel. The Mexican children were always so excited to see us, running up to the van as soon as they saw it bouncing down the dusty road. Monday morning saw us departing Mante for home, and no problems with any border crossings.

The border crossings really surprised me. We were never asked to get out of the van, they did not search any suitcases, they did not even open the doors. The Lord opened the doors as we walked through. We shopped some at the market in Progresso, but it was expensive. Hermana Rosa bought Lily a precious tea set and Hermano Udiel bought each of the girls a beautiful bracelet. Up in the mornings around 6am, to bed somewhere past 11pm, and we loved it! We were exhausted when we got home, but excited about the work in Mexico and ready to go again at a moment's notice! Some of us cried upon leaving El Limonal, as they definately made an impact on our lives. Even looking at the pictures makes some of us tear up still.

Is God calling you to join us in support, prayer and/or financially for our next trip in July?

PSALM 96

O SING to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! Sing to the Lord, bless His name; show forth His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples. For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; He is to be reverently feared and worshiped above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before Him; strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. Ascribe to the Lord, O you families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Give to the Lord the glory due His name; bring an offering and come into His courts. O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; tremble before and reverently fear Him, all the earth. Say among the nations that the Lord reigns; the world also is established, so that it cannot be moved; He shall judge and rule the people righteously and with justice. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all the things which fill it; Let the field be exultant, and all that is in it! Then shall all the trees of the wood sing for joy before the Lord, for He comes, for He comes to judge and govern the earth! He shall judge the world with righteousness and justice and the peoples with His faithfulness and truth.

#1 - Sing to the Lord a new song, daily praising Him for His salvation!

#2 - Give to the Lord all that He is giving you!

#3 - Tell others, declare it among everyone, the Lord reigns!

SING! GIVE! TELL!
